How to Sew A Pillowcase |
I love making pillowcases! This is one of the easiest pillowcases that you'll ever make, and it's a great sewing project for beginning sewers. There are a couple of different ways to sew this pillowcase, and with both methods the sewing is very easy. I use one yard of fabric, and only sew two seams. If you're a beginning sewer and you don't have a serger, you can finish the raw edges of the pillowcase by zigzagging over them prior to sewing construction, or you can trim with pinking shears. Fold the fabric right sides together lengthwise, pin the bottom and the side seam together and sew. I use a 1/2 inch seam allowance when I sew pillowcases this way. |

When coming to the corner, leave the needle down in the fabric, raise the presser foot, then turn the fabric, lower the presser foot, and sew down the other side of the pillowcase at 1/2 inch seam allowance. If you have finished the seam allowances prior to sewing contruction, press well as stitched and then press the seams open. When using this method to sew a pillowcase, the corners will also have to be cut diagonally as illustrated here. Use a point turner to get a good sharp corner when turning the pillowcase right side out. |
