How to Sew A Neck Pillow |
Neck pillows are easy and quick to sew, and make nice gifts. They can be sewn out of any fabric, although I prefer to use 100% cotton fabric. Flannel, satin, sateen, velvet, velveteen, and fleece are also acceptable. Making your own pattern for a neck pillow is very easy. These pillows look a lot like the letter "C", which would be easy to draw free hand. If you have a neck pillow that you have purchased, you could also trace the neck pillow and add seam allowances. I would use a 1/2 inch seam allowance for this project. You could design the pattern to be placed on the fold, as shown below, or you could design a pattern that is not placed on the fold of the fabric, as shown in the bottom picture. It is probably a little less time consuming to cut out the pattern without placing it on the fold. |
The neck pillow pattern can be designed to be placed on the fold of the fabric as shown above, or it can be designed as one piece and not placed on the fold of the fabric as shown in the bottom right photo. In the picture above, I have created two pattern pieces so that I can cut both pieces. Another way to do this is to cut one pattern piece, move the pattern down, re-pin in place, and cut the second neck pillow pattern piece. |
